Hearing loss

A hearing loss is an acute hearing deterioration that usually occurs on one side. Most notably, in a hearing loss, the perception of mid and high frequencies is impaired and can lead to complete deafness. A hearing loss is a deterioration of hearing that is Sensorineural hearing loss therefore has to do with the perception of sound. In addition, there may be a feeling of pressure, ringing in the ears or dizziness. It is assumed that hearing loss has to do with inflammation in the inner ear, circulatory disorders in the ear or metabolic disorders. The causes are still being puzzled over from a medical point of view. However, hearing loss is associated with viral infections, tumors, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular problems (high blood pressure), smoking and stress, among others. Treatments include blood thinners, hyperbaric oxygen treatment or cortisone.


The earlier treatment is started, the higher the probability of success. Even though in many cases a hearing loss will heal spontaneously, we recommend contacting your ENT physician in any case. A hearing loss can also lead to permanent hearing damage.

In addition, a feeling of pressure, ringing in the ears or dizziness may occur. The causes of a hearing loss are not yet fully understood, but it is thought to be related to inflammation in the inner ear, circulatory problems in the ear, or metabolic disorders.   1. Medications: cortisone is often used to treat hearing loss because it can reduce inflammation in the inner ear.
  2. Hyperbaric oxygen treatment: In this treatment, oxygen is administered to the patient under elevated pressure to improve blood flow to the inner ear.
  3. Blood thinners: blood thinners may be used for hearing loss caused by circulatory problems.
